Community Cinema

Acomb Community Cinema has been running since it was founded in January 2016. After a hiatus coming out of the pandemic, we have been up and running again since 2022 and show a film once a month on a Saturday evening (usually on the first Saturday of the month).

We are always looking for new volunteers: could you help us, either front of house welcoming, serving refreshments, or running the technology?

Our History

We began showing films in January 2016 after a community survey the church did showed 80% of people were keen for this resource in our community. We formed a team, and ended up offering a monthly screening on a Friday night.  We saw between 90-100 people each evening, reaching capacity at that point (even shifting refreshments next door). We show recently released on DVD films, not long since shown at the cinema. We have the facility to explore streaming, but havent yet done so!

More details of the films showing can be found in our events diary.  Our copyright means we cannot tell you the name of the film, but if you join our email list, and check posters in the church you will join the inner circle of those who do!

Oh, and as we are trying to move to two teams, so you get a night off to simply enjoy the film every other month, we are still open to new volunteers joining us.
